Senate voting to let anyone in this industry without a license

Hello everyone, my name is Tami Karim. I am a licensed cosmetologist as well as a license instructor and a certified Trichologist. I have been doing hair for over 20+ years. I’m originally from Chicago Illinois moved to Georgia back in 1999.

I really love my industry of work, and I am very disgusted about how the senate is trying vote to just let anyone into our industry without earning a license and not even knowing the structure of hair, as stylist we know that with doing any services we need to know the structure of hair, that’s very important and it’s the lead way to letter you know what the client needs and what her hair can withstand, so if this bill passes which I’m pretty sure it won’t, but if it does this industry will be in trouble, let me know you’ll input!!

Welcome to the forum, @Karim124 ! We’re excited to have you here.

Also, thank you for sharing this article. I hadn’t heard about this, but as a client I certainly want the person working with my hair to be licensed.

@Karim124 Hi Tami!! I’m originally from Chicago too (in Seattle now). :wave:t5:

I heard about this bill and others in different states. I gasped when I saw the list of services that would be exempt from licensure (example):

Curling, straightening, or styling hair using only: Mechanical devices, including, but not limited to, driers, flat irons, and curling irons; .

I’ve personally experienced irreparable hair damage from a flat iron.
Even Senator Halpern states that the bill ignores the very real safety concerns of Pros and clients.

This bill is one to watch.
