Ask Me Anything: Tiara Mitchell (Barber)

It’s time for our first AMA of July! :sparkles:

Learn how to shine in the industry from award-winning female barber, Tiara Mitchell (@Kliphers)!

Tiara is taking the hair industry by storm since opening her own studio, Kliphers Hair Solutions, back in 2019. She’s won best barber in Chattanooga in 2022 and 2023, as well as being inducted into the Barber Hall of Fame this year!

Tiara’s roots in the hair industry run deep, as her mother is one of the foremost hair stylists in her area and Tiara has been observing her work throughout her life. She received her cosmetology license back in 2011, utilizing the knowledge she learned from her mother and what she had picked up visiting some of the biggest and most exclusive hair shows in the country.

Since then, Tiara has expanded her services to include barbering, locs, and hair color. She’s also Olaplex certified and a certified hair loss specialist. Tiara extends her talents not only to her clients in Chattanooga, but also to her client base in St. Louis, which she travels to monthly.

Tiara will be answering questions today through Wednesday, July 3rd, so ask away!

Hi tiara. What made you choose to do services in multiple cities? Are you looking to expand to more cities in the future?

Thank you for your question, I chose to work in STL based on my mentor at the time was experiencing some life altering situations plus she was going into retirement , so she introduced me to her clients and that’s how my clientele picked up there, and I’m a hour away from Atlanta, I’ve won multiple competitions there so its easy to market my business there, I have a 13 year old so at this moment the only other city I would expand too is Nashville.

Have you faced any unique challenges as a female barber in a field that is often male-dominated?

Hi Tiara,

It’s the fit for me during competition. Come through sis. Also, the young man’s haircut.

So tell me what made you choose barbering or did it choose you?

I’m a sucker for motivational quotes, thanks for the daily affirmations inspo on your Insta! :heartpulse:

I love seeing the growing demand for gender-inclusive barbering services. Traditional gender norms surrounding barbering have been challenged as more and more people opt for the expertise of female barbers.

What advice do you have for other women looking to become barbers?

Inspirational quotes are my go to when, I need to motivate myself. The best advice that I can offer a woman looking to become a barber is, to become the best version of another barber in the Industry that origanlly inspired them to become a barber, show up to every beauty and barber show to continue thier education, enter into competitions, and network never be afraid to ask questions, always and always stay humble and be grateful for the talent God birthed you with!
