Welcome to the first AMA (ask me anything) on the StyleSeat Community Forum!
Starting today, we’ll be hearing from Geraldine Smith (@Aries30), a successful NYC based traveling Makeup Artist on StyleSeat, specializing in glam makeup, who has been in the industry for nine years and using StyleSeat to manage her business since 2021!
She was inspired to join this industry back thanks to a friend in high school.
“She would practice makeup on me & doing my eyebrows was one of the main things she focused on. I absolutely love doing eyebrows myself and seeing how she could transform my features made me fall in love with makeup. I’ve been using makeup since I was 15 & I’m now 27 so its been well over 12 years.”
Outside of makeup, Geraldine hates heights, but loves seafood and online shopping
Geraldine will be answering your questions starting today and ending Wednesday, June 5th! Ask away in the thread below
I see on your service menu that you offer a ton of services, including bridal makeup! I’d love to know what products you use/recommend to make makeup last all day? (especially for an event as high stakes as a wedding)!
@Aries30 new makeup artist here! . StyleSeat’s been sending me new clients but I want to do better at promoting myself but I don’t know where to start. how do you go about marketing your business?
Hi @Aries30 Geraldine! I have trouble wearing makeup because I sweat so much which makes it feel very uncomfortable. Any tips on makeup or techniques you use to avoid this? Thank you!
Hello, Hope all is well. Overall i use a variety of products! I love drugstore makeup brands such a maybelline, However for makeup that lasts i love a good primer/Setting spray. The main ones i recommend so that makeup lasts all day is milk hydro grip or even Elf power grip(dupe). A good setting spray will have your makeup put as well rn im loving the kiss matte finish setting spray. Itd all about technique though and not necessarily products
To help with sweat you want to ensure your using a good primer! Power grip by elf or milk hydro grip are some good ones, Also set with a press powder as well as a loose one. The main pressed powders i use are mac studio fix powder as well as one size setting powders. My clients tell me my makeup lasts so thats what i swear by
posting via social media but more so word of mouth is huge as far as marketing goes. I recommend networking amongst other pros and promoting in person as well. People are going to do the marketing for you especially if they love your work and that includes clients.
